| voodoo3475's Full Review: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Value Sound Card |
I had to make a new computer with some really powerful components. When I was looking at sound cards I had narrowed it down to the sound card...the Creative Labs Live! Now I had four choices, the X-Gamer, MP3+, and the Value. The X-Gamer had three games that came with it (Need For Speed: High Stakes, Thief, and Descent 3), MP3+ had software that could be used to make CD's and such, Platinum, which comes with both of the software combined, and the Value, which had no special software, except the drivers. I thought about if I needed to buy more software than I really need. Like the X-Gamer had one game of my interest and that was Thief. The MP3+ had software that comes with most CD-RW Drivers. So I thought about it a bit, and ended up buying the Value.
Value over the Others
I bought the Value because I would save money by doing so. The X-Gamer had Thief, but the other games didn't interest me. The MP3+ had software that comes with most burners. If the packages don't interest you than I recommend the Value.
Saving the Money
All of the Live cards are the SAME EXACT cards but with different software packages. I saved about $100 from the X-Gamer or the MP3+, $150 from the Platinum, and $50 from the Value. How? You ask. I bought an OEM version, which means the company that sent it, only sent me the card, drivers, and manual. Taking away the box saved me $50...funny how things work out.
OK, About the Performance Already
The performance is excellent on this card (it's a lot better than my old dusted off AWE32). I've experienced one problem on this card and that it doesn't play loud enough. I have all of the settings in the Volume setting on my computer on high and I get rather not so loud results. So the way for this to be fixed is that an amplifier can be used. After that was done my problem was abolished. Besides that quality is excellent and no major problems so far.
Well then...
Well it all depends on how you look at it, you might like music, you might like games, you might like both, you might hate both games and music. Fortunately Creative Labs cures the needs of it's customers with the four different types of Live! cards. Everyone knows that it's best to save money, and if you're looking at a new computer this card is probably best for you.
