To start with the 9686 a club store model. Which means that it is only available at Sams Club, Costco, and Best Buy stores (maybe with the exception of a few internet site. However, this computer comes standard with a M90 19" monitor. The 9686 sells for a price around $2400 dollars and as mentioned earlier, that does INCLUDE a 19" monitor.
The computer comes with 128MB of SDRAM, more than enough for todays market. A 40 GB hard drive is also included with this model, why anyone would need forty gigabytes of hard drive space is beyond me; but hell, why not. Also featured is a DVD player, 8 times max speed, which will play a CD somewhere around 40X. As well as a CD-RW, so you can write to a CD (4X2X20 speed), and comes with "disaster recovery" software. Which is going to come in very handy your hard drive crashes. Also included is a 8Mb Nvidia video card. Thats enough for basics today, but if you plan on doing some intense 3D gaming, its just not going to cut it. Also featured is a USB keyboard and mouse (see my review on the 9690 for info about that).
The down side to this computer is that there is no AGP slot, so youre stuck with the 8MB thats in there. But as far as upgrading the rest of the computer, youre more than set. There are 3 memory slots, some open PCI slots, an open front shelf (for a new drive), and an open internal shelf (so that if you somehow fill up that 40Gb you can add more).
This computer is a great buy but if your a gamer, beware. Make sure that it has enough video memory for you
