| Mortal's Full Review: Alienware Majestic-12 |
Alienware is one of the leading PC developers that make computers specifically designed for gaming and they sure know how to tweak their computers to give you the best performance possible. The Alienware Majestic-12 is one of the fastest computers out there on the market, and also one of the most expensive ones. It features the Dual-Processor Intel 820 Based Motherboard w/1AGP/5PCI RDRAM that really rocks. Here is the stuff that comes with this monster:
- Dual-Processor Intel 820 Based Motherboard w/1AGP/5PCI RDRAM
- Hi-Performance Heatsink/CPU Cooling Fan
- Standard 1.44MB Floppy Drive
- Full-Tower ATX Case 300-Watt Power Supply
- Free installation & configuration of favorite games
- Microsoft Windows '98 - Windows 2K Ready
- Performance Benchmarks Documentation
- Personalized Technical Support Manual
- Latest Drivers
I've seen this computer in action, and it is truly fast. Quake III was incredible at a 1600x1200. Well with a 800 Mhz processor and a Voodo5 it should be. But this thing is expensive as hell. You can buy the system for $ 4775.05 with the following configuration:
Processor: Intel Pentium III 933 Mhz Coppermine 133 Mhz FSB w/Heatsink and AAVID Cooling Fan
Memory: Kingston 128MB RDRAM (PC-800)
Keyboard: Keytronic 104-Enhanced Keyboard
Mouse: Microsoft IntelliMouse PS/2
SCSI/IDE Controller: Adaptec 29160N 160MB SCSI Controller
Hard Drive: 18GB 5.2ms seek time 10,000RPM, Ultra160 SCSI
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce2 GTS w/64 MB DDR 4x AGB
DVD-ROM: Pioneer 16X DVD 40X
Modem: US Robotics v.90 56K
Speakers: Cambridge Desktop Theater 5.1 DTT2500 Surround Speaker and Subwoofer
Storage: Iomega External 2GB Jaz Drive - SCSI
Controller #1: MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheels and Pedals
Controller #2: MS Sidewinder gamepad Pro
Well this is quite a gaming machine, but 4775.05 is a lot of money. I tried to cut down on some features and scaled down the price to $3115.18
Here are the configuration I could get for that price:
Processor: Intel Pentium III 800 Mhz Coppermine 133 Mhz FSB w/Heatsink and AAVID Cooling Fan
Memory: Kingston 128MB RDRAM (PC-800)
Keyboard: Keytronic 104-Enhanced Keyboard
Mouse: Microsoft IntelliMouse PS/2
SCSI/IDE Controller: None
Hard Drive: 18GB 5.2ms seek time 10,000RPM, Ultra160 SCSI
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce2 GTS w/32 MB DDR 4x AGB
DVD-ROM: Pioneer 16X DVD 40X
Modem: US Robotics v.90 56K
Speakers: Cambridge Desktop Theater 5.1 DTT2500 Surround Speaker and Subwoofer
Storage: None
Controller #1: MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro
Controller #2: None
$3115.18 is still a lot of money, but if you have the money to spend, this is the system to buy. Myself, I can't afford such a thing. So, if you are like me, check out other Alienware systems such as Area 51, Hive-Mind, or Grey. They are way more affordable and are still quite powerful.
