Yesterday I wrote an Opinion on Zone Alarm, the so called "hack free software". I made some good points that disproved the "hack free" philosophy for this product. Today it's all about The BlackICE Defender!
This is truly a firewall! One of the best and cheapest firewalls on the market. What brought me to this product is its ease of use. It's so simple to install and get running! You simply install it like you would any other program, then it takes care of the rest! It's that easy!
One of the impressive features on BlackICE, is it shows you the severity of the attack on your computer, and not only that, it shows a full description of any attack received by your computer! Also, it shows the I.P. address and Host Name of the intruder so you can track him down!
Another important feature BlackICE has that Zone Alarm doesn't, is that it protects against the SubSeven Trojan Horse, the "I Love You" bug, and many more popular trojans and viruses.
With BlackICE, you can customize the security level of your internet connection. This feature allows you to Block or Trust specific intruders. For example if you want to create a Network Game with some of your buddies, and they need to connect with your computer, simply "Trust" the specific I.P. and it's all done!
If this firewall has a flaw, it would be the cost, although it's not much, it's not free like Zone Alarm...But you get what you pay for with BlackICE.
The bottom line is, if you take your internet security very seriously, I would buy this product, it's well worth the money, more so to those of you who have permanent connections like cable.
