The time for GeForce2 to debut is approaching. The improvements are consist of the following.
-64MB of RAM (DDR/SDRAM versions possibly)
-160MHZ GPU vs. 120MHZ of GeForce
-2x Texturing pipeline (No perf. loss on displaying 2 overlying textures)
-640 MPixel vs. 480 for GeForce
(Detailed Explanation)
The 64MB of Ram will allow higher texture resolution display (e.g. on polygonal surface in games). The 160MHZ GPU is just like a CPU, an overall faster performance. 2x Texturing pipeline means that two textures can be mixed at real-time without performance-loss; this feature will be implanted in DirectX 7 (Microsoft Game/Multimedia Development Standard).
(Competition)
Granted, the 640 MPixel enhancement is relatively small, and seem minute to 3DFX's 1600 MPixel Voodoo 5 6000 ($600 USD). For $600, V5 is without a GPU, placing too much emphasis on the CPU (a 600-1000 MHZ CPU remains expensive) which have too many deserving utilities to list. In addition, to apply 3DFX's certain PROPRIETARY (custom, no DirectX support) effects, namely the motion blur, the 1600/4 = 400 MPixel. All information is published in 3DFX's website.
Upshot: With the coming of GeForce2, GeForce will come down in price. With Nvidia's 6 month card cycle, the next cycle begins in March/April.
