| agnostic_311's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart p1000 Ink-jet Printer |
I got this printer because my old, trusty Canon BJC-70 died after 6 years of service (may it rest in peace in the techie graveyard). I'm also hoping to delve into the world of digital camera's before too long, and the fact that this printer will allow you to print out your picture(s) without downloading them to your PC seemed alright with me.
Setup
This printer is cross-platform, and all that can be said for the Macintosh setup is that it went as easy as can be expected.
The Windows 98 SE setup was harmless, as well. It was a coincidence that I had reformatted my hard drive and was working with a fresh install and detection in Windows, but that install went as smooth as can be expected also. I understand there is a little conflict with trying to add the printer manually using the Win98 Add/Remove Hardware Control Panel, but I let it autodetect and had no problems at all. It's been running fine for weeks.
Quality of Printjob(s)
Stunning and Amazing. The test page gives you a fine example of the work this printer is capable of without wasting half of your ink (a pleasant change from prior HP InkJets). I have yet to print anything of photo quality, but the few brochures and other things I have printed out in color all came out simply immaculate and beautiful.
Speed
Fast, for an inkjet of such high quality. It obviously prints plain old black and white documents quite faster than it will color items, but the color speed isn't too shabby, either...It still beats any InkJet I've used.
Cost/Benefit
It's not cheap (ballpark $375), but you get what you pay for. If all you need is document printing, go with an HP 900 series or an Epson. If, however, you're looking for HIGH-quality printouts, with all-around great performance...Get this printer.
I've never been a fan of Epson for various reasons, but I have loved Canon for years. Not until recently did I start to warm up to HP InkJets. After a little research and comparison shopping, I think you'll come to the same conclusion I did...The HP PhotoSmart P1000 is one heck of an InkJet printer and well worth the money!
I would recommend this printer for anyone in the market for a high-end InkJet printer that is capable of just about anything a printer can do.
