| paulsimmons's Full Review: VST FireWire Zip 250 |
This review is for a VST 25GB External FireWire hard drive. I couldn't find a category for this item. This was as close as I could get...
I recently bought a FireWire card for my PC. I wanted to take advantage of some interesting devices that were coming out. The first FireWire product I purchased was the VST 25GB FireWire Hard Drive (model FW1725-G). The drive is about 5 inches long, 1 inch high and about 2 3/4 inches across. It has a nice looking graphite finish (to match the graphite Mac I'm guessing...)
I'm running Windows 2000 Professional. I plugged the external hard drive into the FireWire card with the included cable and Windows recognized it with no problem. To initialize the drive I went into Computer Management, opened up Disk Management under the Storage node and let Windows give the new drive a signature. I then had to format the drive (it was formatted for the Mac.) The formatting took about 30 minutes.
The drive is very quiet. It sits on top of my desk and after a week I don't even notice it anymore. I used to use a 2GB Jaz drive for backups and archiving but now I'm using this drive and I couldn't be happier. The documentation that came with the drive was sparse but it turns out I didn't really need it after all.
I got a special deal on this one. They cost about $999 if you get one from the VST website.
