In need of a backup device and those 100 MB Zip drives aren't cutting it any more? Don't have a SCSI port or need to backup multiple machines? Want to create music CDs from all those MP3s you’ve downloaded off of Napster? MicroSolutions Backpack CD-ReWriter offers a parallel port solution for backing up the data off those huge hard drives and creating those audio CDs.
Writing at 4x’s speed and reading at 24x’s, you can backup your system 550MB a time. While the disks are 650MB, this size is trimmed down a bit after formatting. For the blank CD-RW’s fresh from the store, this formatting takes about 20 minutes, before you can backup your files. Backup is done by treating the disks as a standard DOS device, so you can use the Windows Explorer and just drag your files there. If you like the command line, you can also use “xcopy /s” to copy a whole directory tree. Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator software is also included.
Setup was a breeze from CD or floppy, allowing you to daisy chain your printer if you only have one parallel port. All the necessary cabling was provided.
All in all, a great buy.
