Look around before you decide

If you are thinking of getting a 19" monitor you are making the right choice. It is a lot easier to work on a computer that has a larger monitor and it is better for your eyes. The monitor is one of the components that you interact directly with the most, and by far look at the most so it stands to reason that you would spend some time researching before you decide on which one to get.

Not all monitors are equal, also not all 19" monitors are the same size. The viewable area of a 19" monitor can range from 17 to a little over 18 inches. Also a monitor with a low refresh rate will seem to flicker which is hard on the eyes, so a higher refresh rate is a lot better.

Also the dot pitch is important. A monitor with a lower dot pitch will have a sharper picture than one with a larger dot pitch. Also look for a monitor with a square flat tube, not to be confused with a flat display or LCD display. A flat tube means that the surface of the tube that you look at has no arch or almost no arch across the surface. You will also want to look at as many different places as you can because the price of monitors varies a lot from place to place.
