Never thought of it that way! (Reply to this comment)

You know I never realized there was that many messengers out there. WOW!!
I have to disagree with what you said about icq though. I use icq very often and I find it to be extremely exciting. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. And just incase you didnt know, there are "skins" available for it too!
But other than that I would say this is a really nice and informative review. Good job!

I had problems too.... (Reply to this comment)

I had so many problems (bugs) with the Yahoo messenger that I had to uninstall it! It was getting very annoying and popping up with a little box every time I signed offline that would automatically try to sign me back on at least 3 times! Sorry to say =) I like my
Instant Messenger! Have never had a problem with it! But I know there is a lot of controversy there too, guess it depends on personal opinion. Totally agree about yahoo though, great review!

Turn on your pager!! (Reply to this comment)
by auntnono
As you know, I agree 100% in your assessment of Yahoo messenger. It locks my computer at least 4 times a session. Missing posts make it hard to follow a converation.
I have tried AIM- was not overly impressed. It annoys me to have to hit send after every line. I am used to the "enter" method. Also those dang bells- how do you turn them off??
Unlike you, I have had no problems using ICQ with Win98. I actually prefer it to Yahoo. The only reason I don't use it more often is everyone else is on Yahoo.

Well, That Explains It! (Reply to this comment)

I installed ICQ and its affiliate ICU on my Gateway running W-98. Talk about catastrophic failure! There was a distinct smell of sulphur and brimstone lingering in the air afer I activated the un-install feature at warp speed. Good review.

Nice! (Reply to this comment)

The Mirabella gods must like me, I have no problems with ICQ on both computers running Windows 98. I do have clients that thought they installed an evil spirit once ICQ insinuated itself so I know from what you speak.
Thanks for another outstanding review.

Hey P? (Reply to this comment)

I too have ICQ, Yahoo and AIM. I have tried other ones like Pagoo, MSN, and I didn't like how they worked.
Both my husband and I use Yahoo Pager often, and we have never had the problem of it locking up, only problem is logging on to yahoo when it is having problems (which seems to be often any more.)
Yahoo also has skins as well as ICQ does. So it does make it much nicer to use.
Thx, Gypsy

ICQ and Win98 (Reply to this comment)
by slhansen
I'm not sure why you have problems running ICQ with Win98, that's what I use at home and I don't have any problems with either one of them! A great way to talk to my sister in Pennsylvania without a big phone bill. And it also has "skins" you can use to dress it up, although those are essentially available from outside providers and not something ICQ itself provides (last I looked).
Of course, since AOL now owns ICQ, and you apparently dislike AOL very much <G>, you probably don't want to use ICQ anyway! :-)
Cheers,
Steph ~

Great opinion as usual, but I am going to stick with my MSN Messenger. If you ever decide to switch back, my ID is chris_ceb. At least you will have one (epinion) friend there!

I am not sure when you had pirch ,but I have used it awhile and they have the option in preferences to make it so you don't have to view the invites and messages with the version I use :).. I think they all have there little quirks :)
