Hrm...Okay. Here's the deal. My sister called me one day and said, "Go to www.bonzibuddy.com and download this GREAT new pet parrot called Peedee! He is da bomb!" Well, what do you do when that happens?...You go to the site and get it.
Bonzi buddy is a free download, granted they tell you it is a quick download when in all actuality, it is quite lengthy. No prob...I have a fast internet connection and an even faster processor. Okay, so I got the software. Setup was pretty uneventful, the setup wizard (as usual did its thing).
Bonzi Buddy is a virtual "pet" who supposedly helps you surf through the internet with ease. It will monitor what sites and keywords you look for then memorize them and give you hints on other web sites that have the same interest.
It also tells you jokes, trivia, sings songs, and will speak to you at your descretion.
One problem right off, Bonzi buddy is a born salesman.!!! From the very first download to each new day, Bonzi buddy is trying to get you to go to its favorite website and buy new add-ons! I was a sucker and went for the Voice Recognition add-on for a mere $14.95, with this add-on I was supposed to be able to talk to by buddy without using the keyboard. WRONG.
I am able to tell BonziBuddy a few commands, but it inevitably involves me having to type the remainder of the request.
Okay, no big deal, it was only $15 and it is sorta fun to talk to my computer and watch it do something, at least.
Now for the fun part, my nephew...a 3 year old. With Bonzi buddy, you can tell it exactly what to say...it will say almost anything you can type in. With a child, this is very amusing and entertaining, not only do they not know that you are actually the one doing the talking, but they really think that this parrot is talking to them, IRL. Very fun for children.
Okay, I have forgotten where I was going with this review so let me get to the gusto.
For a free download, Bonzi Buddy is not that bad of a deal. Get used to its salesmanship and have fun with the kids...that's about the best of it.
