| wiston's Full Review: Dell Latitude CPx H500GT |
This Dell laptop has everything I was looking for. 500mhz P3 processor, upgradable memory, DVD, very nice screen for a laptop. These are the reasons I decided on this product.
Processor: I've got the IntelŪ PentiumŪ III 500 MHz processor which really keeps things moving. I often have about 4 or 5 programs open at a time and rarely have the slow churning problem that I have with my home machine with the PII processor that you can practically see thinking in the background!
Memory: I went with 64MB - 512MB using 100MHz SDRAM and still have plenty of memory to go even with all of the movies and stuff I have to download to check out. (When you are in marketing, it's important to stay on top of the latest technology. Wink. Wink.) There are also 2 memory sockets on system board in case I need more.
Storage. I have a 8X DVD Module so hopefully I can watch DVDs on long plane, but I haven't gotten this to work yet. There is also a 3.5" 1.44MB3, removable diskette drive. Really though, I just use the regular CD's in the drive. Yes, it does play music CDs. I haven't gotten decent speakers yet so I don't use this feature much.
Audio: It's got the ESS Maestro audio controller and Sound Blaster Emulation. As I mentioned above, the speakers are really just okay. I just use them to play music clips for CDs that I'm considering on buying on Amazon or to listen the "You've Got Mail" from my personal AOL account.
Graphics: It's got a screen that I'm really happy with. So much so, that I decided not to get another external monitor. It's a 14.1" XGA active matrix (TFT) display with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, 16 million colors (support up to 1600x1200 pixels with external monitor, 4.2B colors)
What else should you know about it? It comes with some software. I went with Windows 98 Second Edition and put all of my own software on it. I could have gotten other operating systems too and most likely will be upgrading to Windows NT.
I also liked the warranty policy which is your choice of next 3 Yr Limited Warranty or 1 Yr Next Bus. Day On-Site Service. For the money, I am very pleased with Dell's computer and equally impressed with their customer support.
