Best Budget Card Around
Written: Mar 10 '00
Pros:Cheap, industry support, fast
Cons:Minor heat problem in warranty voiding cases
The Voodoo3 2000 PCI is an extremely well made card. The performance is stellar, 10-20% within 3dfx's fastest Voodoo3 card, the 3500TV.
This card does the most basic things that every computer needs: it
displays video quickly and clearly. The text is crisp and I have never had a problem with this card.
Based on the Voodoo3 chipset, you will have no problems at all playing any of the latest and upcoming computer games. At a retail price hovering from $83USD+, this makes for an extremely cheap solution.
I have never had any problems with this card. Drivers are released on a regular basis, and it even supports Microsoft's latest OS, Windows 2000. The only quirk that I can think that someone may be concerned with is the heat that this card produces. The Voodoo3 2000 PCI card only comes with a heatsink slapped on top of the chipset. Generally this is not a problem, but in the cases where overclocking(yes, this card overclocks quite nicely) is involved, heat will greatly affect the stability of the card.
It is a basic card that will play games at a sufficient rate. I would highly recommend a different card if more multimedia features are needed.
Outside of the heat problem mentioned, this is an awesome card that I would recommend to anyone.
