There are differing views about Napster. There's also a big law suit going on over Napster. Bottom line...Like to be able to download the music that you want to hear for free? Then get Napster!
What is Napster? It is basically a community of people that love music and exchange their music libraries online. The major complaint about Napster is that copyright laws are being violated by this exchange of music. All Old Dave has to say is B.S.!
Well, maybe so to an extent, but don't we all, and when I say we all and that includes the artist that create the music, share what we have with each other? It seems to be human nature. If you have a really good cassette and a friend wants a copy and you can copy it don't you? You want to borrow something from a friend say like a CD or video tape or whatever and can copy it, don't you?
As for Old Dave, I don't have any qualms about being able to download all the songs that I really want to hear when I want to from people that are willing to share them with me. I've got some great Stevie Ray Vaughn, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Steve Miller and much more with Napster.
As with any online community you have some people that like to play games. You will get a particular track about 99 percent downloaded and they will cut you off. Makes you wish you could reach through the monitor and choke the sh*t out of them! But you persevere.
It's a two way street. What you have in your music library is available for upload and what's available in the community is available for download while you are connected to the Napster server. Don't cut people off if they are uploading from you. Bad form mate! Treat others as you would want to be treated.
Napster is so easy to use that anyone can use it. You can use it while doing other things online such as writing Epinions. It has it's own chat feature so you can talk to the people that you are downloading from and others that share your musical interest. It has it's own player so you can listen to the music you have in your library or that you have downloaded while you are working.
All you have to do is go to the website: www.napster.com and download the program. It's small enough that I've emailed it to several friends.
You want the MP3s you really want then get Napster!
