| NeoVita's Full Review: Sager NP3360 |
I needed a gaming/school laptop. I didn’t need long battery life lightweight or good Tec support. I also was under a pretty tight budget (for a laptop anyway). I first looked at Dell then Compaq with them, fast systems were $3000 plus. I then found the Sager 3366 the price was awesome about $2100 and it was the fastest on the market. I was not yet convinced because I had heard bad things about cheep computers. I scoured the Usenet C|net and just about everywhere that had real people, they all said about the same thing: “good price, bad tech support” well I used to build my computers and I have never had tech support so anything must be better than the nothing I have now. I must say though the times I have called they were very helpful, but then again my expectations were not very high. I will go over each part and give a few comments about how well it has worked or not worked :)
Summery: This is a good desktop replacement, and it is good for going to network parties etc. The battery though keeps you fairly dependent on wall outlets.
CPU: Fast Fast Fast my desktop goes at 400 so an 800 to me is awesome. For the price this is still the fasted computer on the market. The Ram is well Ram, not much to say. This notebook plays Unreal Tournament very smooth even at High Res in software. I had trouble with Deus Ex but I think it was a driver thing. Did I say this was Fast?
Video/Screen: 8 Megs of Video ram is par for notebooks. Dell has a 16meg chip if you are willing to pay an extra 1000 bucks for the system. It plays DVDs very smooth. I watched Gone With The Wind (a real long movie) and it only shuttered only once. I also use my laptop for graphic editing and it does just fine. I have one bad pixel and I have only seen it once. Besides that it is a good 14inch screen with a nice video card. It has more room on screen than my 15-inch desktop monitor. It does not run Open GL and the Direct 3D is unpredictable. But I run UT just as fast in software.
Battery: the system takes a hit when it comes to the battery. The battery could be better it could be a lot better. I get about 1.5 hours the system also has no Speed Step. The windows battery meter goes to 0% when the battery is at about 50% this is very annoying. The battery is just slightly not long enough for a DVD on a plane.
Hard Drive: The Hard drive is very roomy. I have Room for duel Operating Systems, (2000/Me) MP3’s, Games, School and I still have a ton of room left over. My comp did come with 19 gigs instead of 20 I called them up and they said something about partitions I went into Fdisk and the total room on disk is like 19.3 not 20. I am not a one to make a big deal about 700 Megs so I let it drop. But I am a little disappointed. My first hard drive was about 700 Megs :).
Sound Card/Speakers: I have done some audio editing with the laptop and it has come out very well. The speakers are… well… small. But I bought some nice $20 digital headphones and it does just fine.
Prot Replicator: Bad. This thing is not shielded so there is alto of sound distortion and it is fairly hard to plug in. But it does give you the ability to plug in a serial printer. My advice: get a USB printer instead of the Replicator.
Conclusion: If you travel a lot and need a long battery life this is not for you. If you are looking for a desktop replacement that doesn’t ruin your wallet then this is the computer for you. If you want to be able to pack your computer up in 73seconds and go over to a friend’s house for a frag fest after school this is definitely the computer for you.
