| carrielang's Full Review: IBM PC Camera Webcam |
I recently received a set of two of these PC Camera's. One will be sent to my mother, and we are keeping one. Installation was extremly easy. I, as usual, didn't read the instructions, just went straight to the install. Well, IBM seems to anticipate people like me. On the connector, it was covered with a piece of tape that clearly said to install the software first, then plug in the camera. Installing the software was as simple as putting the cd-rom in the computer and closing the drive. Follow the easy commands, and you are on your way. I run Windows 98, and this is true plug and play. I plugged it into the back of my computer (they even gave the little symbol on the cord to help me with where it went on my computer), and away we went.
The picture quality is decent, not superb, but we also have a window with sunlight behind us, and that may be part of the problem. The video conferencing part is great....I really can't wait to try it out! The cd comes with several other programs that you can install, and they are all quick and easy.
The main program itself is quite simple to use. Just put the camera into focus, click the picture and there you go, your own picture. You can change the directory you want the pictures to go into. Each picture comes out as a .bmp file so far. Overall, it's good quality, and the casing matches the color of the monitor, so it's also unobtrussive.
