I purchased the DVRaptor about 2 months ago, and can’t stop from singing it’s praises. Simply put; it works. I came from using the much plagued Iomega Buz, infamous for it’s selective functionality. In contrast the DVRaptor does everything it’s supposed to do and is 100% reliable. It integrates flawlessly with Adobe Premiere, and has yet to fail me. It’s main feature that sets it apart from other firewire cards is that previewed video is sent out from the DV card to the camera and then back to the computer screen where it’s displayed. Though this may sound like a lot of work for the processor, It in fact takes so much strain off of the CPU and forces the camera or DV VCR to do all the hard work, making scrubbing completely real-time. The only problem this presents is that the camera or DV VCR must be hooked up to the computer while you edit, if this is a problem you can disable this feature. The only ‘problem’ that I’ve found working with Premiere is that Adobe’s batch capture function only allows you to set numerical values for capturing rather than visually setting mark in/out points. To counteract this I use Raptor’s Raptor Video program to do all of my capturing, the captured video then imports into Premiere without conflict.
