On July 19th, MSN messenger released MSN messenger 3.0. One of the new features is free long distance to Canada and U.S, which better quality then another famous free long distance provider dialpad.com. Other new features include file transfer, member profile.

History
In July of 99, Microsoft attempted to lead instant messaging world by allowing MSN messenger users to talk to AOL/AIM users. The two giants battled for about a month, and Microsoft lost the battle. So MSN messenger had its first version 1.0 with only one distinctive feature. That feature alerted people whenever new mail came in to their Hotmail mailbox.

How to get it
1. Your MSN messenger screen name is the same as your Hotmail screen name, if you’re one of the few people who don’t have, then go to www.hotmail.com to register.
2. Download the newest MSN messenger at their site, http://messenger.msn.com/, download is only couple minutes (650kb).
3. Install it, now whenever your computer starts, it will start automatically and it will log on automatically.

1. Easy access to Hotmail, if you use the Hotmail e-mail often, then this service is for you. Alerts you whenever you have new messages.

Although MSN messenger greatly improved, it’s still not the best, it is not even close 2nd. Unless you check your Hotmail everyday, you don’t need this service. It is unlikely that your friends use MSN messenger, so you can’t talk to them. I suggest you sign up with AOL instant messenger which features more then MSN messenger, and plus they have a user base of over 60 million people, opposed MSN’s 5 million.
