Pros: Noticable Upgrade From 3, Better Performace Due to Memory
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: The voodoo 4 isnt a noticible upgrade, the voodoo 5 is, but only for games with texturing capabilities. I would wait, or look elsewhere now that 3dfx is gone.

I build computers for a living, Based on what I build I get a good idea on what hardware has problems and what is worth the cash. I've used systems with just about every card you can imagine. I build them and play with them, and make sure everything works before selling.
Voodoo cards have been one of the cleanest for graphics when it comes to gaming, they aren't the ultimate card for multimedia, but for gaming they do their job, and do it well..
The Voodoo 3 is the card I've used the most.. The voodoo 4500 of course has a great advantage due to the amount of ram they decided to put on it.. and with games growing larger and larger more ram is going to be needed. Gaming is moving towards DVDrom which will eventually enable game makers to have 8 gig games.. Imagine the graphics they could throw on a game of that size..
I think the rule, more ram is better applies to every video card, When it comes to computers or video cards. However going from 1 Voodoo card to the next its like going from one CPU to the next.. 133 166 200 266 300mhz
you don't really notice any difference when you do it that way.. plus it sure sets you back a good ammount.. My advice to anyone upgrading is always to wait a few models before rushing into an upgrade..
Companies always tend to develop 2 or 3 cards at a time.. they release one.. let it sell out.. and then release the next one not more than a month or 2 later.. Unless your one of those BIG gamers who dosn't use their computer as a computer, and instead as an arcade machine, then I'd suggest waiting. However, I do know several people who have tried the Voodoo 5, and were dissapointed by the lack of any noticable difference.. The biggest difference was in the texturing of a game.
so you might also keep that in mind before purchasing or waiting for the next release..
Over all.. The Voodoo 4 is an upgrade.. not very noticably to the voodoo 3, and the Voodoo 5 isnt worth buying unless you want that little bit of texturing, its one model worth skipping past.. I'd suggest Voodoo 3 as the best buy at the moment, unless you have extra cash.. Then Voodoo 5.
3dfx/Voodoo has been bougt out recently by nvidia recently, and this was done right before Voodoo was about to release a 128mb card. So keep yours eyes open for the Nvidia 128mb voodoo based card which should be out soon.
