Cons:non significant

I've been using a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop computer for just about a year now. Since I'm a school teacher, I had to save several years before I made my purchase. After careful research, I selected a Dell Inspiron 7000 based on various ratings regarding its ruggedness, reliability and capability. My unit has a Pentium II/300 processor, 128 megs of RAM, a 6.5 gig hard drive and a 2x DVD drive. I have found the unit to be fully capable of handling anything I've thrown at it, everything from memory eating photo programs to digital movies. As a teacher, I appreciate having a machine with which I can both log into the school's network or use a modem at home for internet research. Have I had to use Dell's tech support? Yes, not for anything wrong with the hardware or software that came with the machine, but for a situation that occurred when Novell client 3.0 was installed--and crashed my internet capabilities. It turns out that I needed two calls to tech support to correct the problem. Dell has installed a "disk image" in an invisible partition on the hard drive that can restore the computer to its original factory settings--VERY handy. Of course, you have to save all your data, because it will all be erased when the restore operation is completed. But that was a small price to pay to get the internet capability back. By the way, the Novell 3.1 client installed flawlessly and has worked well so far. What is most impressive about this machine is its 15 inch screen, which is bright, very viewable and is a super resource for a teacher. I can show DVD movies to my students (since I'm a Spanish teacher, it's great to have movies in both Spanish subtitles or in the Spanish language) Also, students appreciate the large screen when I'm showing them one of the finer points about computer technology (since I'm also the tech support specialist at the school). If you need to use a PC, you can't beat a Dell for quality and reliability. The rugged design is very well suited for a school environment, and the unit is powerful enough to be a businessman's desktop replacement as well.
