| AndrewCom's Full Review: CuteMX |
Well, first of all, in my opinion, CuteMX is no napster, I'd rather compare it to Scour Exchange (or Napster + Wrapster, iMesh....). If all you want is Mp3s, you'll be better off go with Napster, with hundreds and millions of files, you can find anything you want. For everything else, there is CuteMX. However, since CuteMX using peer-to-peer connection instead of central servers, it might (just might) have a better chance of survival than Napster.
Using CuteMX is extremely easy, just follow the wizard, you will get it up and running in no time. I think it's interface is very similar with Scour Exchange(which went out of business weeks ago, no longer offering file-sharing), just type in the keyword, search and you are all set. One big advantage over Scour and lots of others: if you used Scour, one thing everyone hates is lacking of resume feature. So you've downloaded about 90%, suddenly the pc crashed(and if you are using windows, you can almost count on that), then you have to start from the very beginning, and if it's a 400Mb file and you are on dial-up, that will pretty much kill it, better features in CuteMX: you can getting files from different users. So if one of the pc you downloading file from crashed, the software will automatically find you an alternative, and if that didn't work out, you still got a chance to get a resume. You can manually changed the file name and user by right-click on file name in queue window, and click on Rename Destination, by doing that, you can download it from another user even if the user gives his files a different name.
HOWEVER, CuteMX still has lots of room for improvement: a better search engine like Gnutella, or Scour, give users more options when doing the search (like specify line speed...), and faster download. But still it's no doubt, CuteMX is the leader of the pack, give it a try while you still can.
