| jmrm5's Full Review: Gateway Performance 1000 xl |
The Gateway 1000xl was built from the beginning as a computer for users who demand and simply want the best. This computer is a very powerful windows based machine, and I can see no reason as to why any normal household user would need anything better than this one.
The Gateway 1000xl truly provides whiz-by performance naturally because of the premium hardware it ships with. I got a hold of mine because my son loves to play these new 3d games and his obsession has now rubbed off on his father.
(How many dad’s do you know out there can hold their own in a 1v1 Quake3 deathmatch?)
The xl ships with a Intel Pentium III processor doing it’s computing at 1000MHz cycles. This chip also comes with the “Advanced Transfer Cache.”
My Gateway computer came to my frontdoor with a 128MB 133MHz SDRAM memory. This unit can be expandable to 512MB and our system now has 256 MB since we upgraded the beast a few weeks back.
The monitor the unit came with was a 19" (18" viewable) Mitsubishi Diamondtron monitor powered by (my fave) a 64MB NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra graphics card. One nice feature about the case that this computer is that the two USB ports are conveniently located at the front of the tower, for easy access.
The 60GB 7200RPM Ultra ATA100 hard drive is a thing of mechanical beauty. I have never owned a hard drive larger than 4GB before this one, and it amazes me daily whenever I hear the thing power up. 60 GB is huge man.
To top of all this mechanical wizardry the Gateway 1000xl also ships with a 6X/40X DVD-ROM Drive, and a recordable/reWriteable 8x/4x/32x CD ROM. Having this computer have the two of these drives already installed on this computer was one of the main reasons as to why I had selected this computer.
Imagine all of the above features for $2999, I thought to myself this was one of the better computer buys I have seen in a while. With that said, I have been very happy with my Gateway computer. I have never owned a Gateway computer in the past, and have enjoyed owning this one since the time I opened the colorful box it came in.
I would highly recommend this computer and Gateway computers in general to users who want an infinitely customizable machine that is very easy to use and quite competitive in terms of price.
