I used to think that people who grew attached to their computers or other inanimate objects were just insane... now I know how they feel.
When forced with the reality of needing a computer for college, I grudgingly went online to see what was available and how much of my hard earned loot I would have to part with. I checked out some other sites, but when I came to the Dell site, I knew what I wanted. I was able to personally configure my own system, so that I could save on some features that I would not need and spend a little more on the things that I would need. Because I am still a little wary of buying big things like computers over the internet, I called the 1-800 number. Was I ever surprised to talk to a live person right away! The sales rep clearly knew her stuff and answered every one of my questions. She took my order over the phone and assured me that my computer would arrive soon... I think in 2-3 weeks.
The next shock was when my computer arrived in one week - early? who delivers their product early? apparently Dell does. It's so easy to put together, you just match up all the colors of the plugs to the colors on the plug ins on the tower and the computer is up and running. At first I thought, ok, so I have spent a couple grand for an oversize typewriter, but as I began to realize all my Dell was capable of, I changed my tune. It came with tons of software, enough reading material to keep my busy for years, cool demos of games, and the all important service hotline, just in case I broke something or couldn't figure out how this beauty works.
I have called the service line twice, and both times I talked to a real person within five minutes of calling. Dell also offers a 3year on site service option, so that if they can't talk me through it on the phone, they'll come and take care of it themselves. It's wonderful to have people who know what they are doing to help me with my computer.
Overall, the service of Dell is wonderful. From their sales reps to their service operators, everyone is knowledgable and friendly. They know their stuff and they are patient, even with us "non computer folks."
Furthermore, my computer is a wonderful machine - I don't think I could have gotten a better deal anywhere. I love this computer!
