A Smart Switch for me!

Written: Jan 16 '00
Pros:Great connections, surfing easy, connection speed high.
Cons:Worldnet mail server is a pain

When I had to switch to AT&T Worldnet so that my husband's Sega Dreamcast could connect to the internet, I was not too excited. Okay, so I was an AOL fanatic. Even though I had problems getting online, and sometimes my 56K modem would not connect at more than 26K I was determined to stay for the ease of the surfing/getting mail/IMs (which I now get for free). Keeping two ISP's seemed idiotic, so I finally gave up AOL. When I truly gave AT&T a chance I was pleasantly surprised.

At first I was unimpressed by the mailbox system, but soon realized that by picking up my mail through Microsoft Outlook, it was quicker, and I could actually read my mail offline. I have never been "booted" off AT&T like I was constantly with AOL. And I have never had a problem connecting, and usually connect at 46,666 if not higher. This is with only one access phone number in my area.

A few other things I was impressed with, was the fact that immediately after I signed on the first time, AT&T had copied my favorite places from the AOL list, so that saved me quite a bit of time. I also liked that I could be billed through my Long Distance phone bill instead of by credit card or checking account. The first month I called to see if my bill had included my Worldnet service, (and if you have gotten this far, here is a hint) I found out they had a special offer of only $14.95 a month for a year but you had to call AT&T to get it.

So here I am paying $7 less than AOL (for 150 hours a month) for a service I absolutely love. Its worth a try, don't you think?
