Eudora 4.0 does not Rock any more!

Written: Mar 24 '00 (Updated Mar 24 '00)
Pros:Great Filtering, archives
Cons:Microsoft Viewer does not work

Eudora --once a must-have email program does not listen to users any more.
1: Eudora is still not rock solid in stability.
--If you set up various accounts with Eudora, and if Eudora spits out the message something like : eudora is tired of waiting......,most likely, Eudora lies to you.
The same account can be easily accessed by other programs such as Outlook Express or Outlook 2000. And you can get mails. When you hit "check mail" from Eudora again, Eudora will lie again..that there is no mail.
----- Delete Eudora.ini file from Eudora folder. Or, hit "forget password" from option menu. And access the same mail..Eudora will retrieve mails for you. What does it mean ? Eudora.ini file was corrupted.

2: Eudora sells some foreign versions through its overseas agent. So you can find such version as Eudora Japanese. It looks like Eudora is really global.
---Answer is no. If you have a friend in Japan, who uses Eudora Japanese, and if he/she sends you a message in Japanese...you will see garbled messages in your Eudora. If you use Outlook Express or Outlook 2000, you can see this message in native format.
What does it mean ? Eudora will say that you forgot to (x) select Microsoft Viewer option.
Now you (x) selected Microsoft Viewer, and check the same mail. Yes....! You can see some Japanese Characters. .....but a wait a moment, they are not Japanese...they are Japanese and garbled characters. What does it mean ? Eudora's Microsoft Viewer is not the same as the one Microsoft uses for Internet Explorer. Why ? It beats me. Eudora claims that Microsoft Viewer is to read Html email.

3: If Internet means "Global" and you gain many friends overseas and you are lucky enough to communicate with them in their native tongues, (or with a help of translation software), Eudora should not be your email client. You should use either Outlook Express or Outlook 2000.

4: Eudora is superb in filters and archives. As Eudora can import outlook express, why don't you use Eudora as archive application. (Outlook Express, outlook 2000 is very difficult to control
files. If you dual boot (ex. Windows 98 and NT ), you will find it impossible to synchronize outlook inboxes. On the other hand, Eudora can be shared with each OS, with no problems.

5:New version of Eudora (paid mode, free mode, ad-mode) came out. It did not solve foreign language problems at all. And it has a nasty bug: where the area that normally contains the mailboxes, file explorer, stationery, signatures, and personalities windows would turn into an expanse of gray.

6:Abruptly, another build 4.3.1 showed up. It fixed this gray area problem. Of course, Eudora never
corrects foreign language problem.

7: In my case
I have been using Eudora Pro for a long time. Now that I get so many email from Asia,Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc., I can no longer rely on Eudora because of one reason and one reason only.
I cannot force my friends to write in English only.

Eudora gets great scores from "Beta Testers, Editor of PC related magazines" all the time. However, these people apparently have no e-mails
from around the world in native tongues. I was a happy user up until I started receiving such mails.
