Are you a gamer? Do you play games more advanced than Quake II? Are you looking to spend under $200. Well, you absolutely must get your hands on a TNT2 card, because at a decent price, this chipset provides the best 3d effects you can get. At this point in gaming, there is nothing it can't handle, and it will be able to give you high performance for at least two more years.
When it comes down to it, the most important thing is performance. You must have high performance in order to enjoy your games. In particular, if your computer is somewhat behind the times, a high quality 3D card is even more important. I had been running a 300 mhz machine for quite some time, and yet I was able to handle the latest games up until the beginning of this year. I should have been upgrading my machine a long time ago, but because I was using a top grade 3d effects card, this wasn't necessary. Thank God for NVIDIA.
Let's talk about the TNT2 vs. a Voodoo chipset. It used to be the Voodoo was the only card on the market that was worth buying. The Voodoo 2 was the first 3D card I owned and it performed like a million bucks. I couldn't have asked for more. Then NVIDIA came out with the Riva TNT, and it was a decent card, but they didn't really have anything on Voodoo, both were neck and neck in the race for superiority. Since then however, NVIDIA has pulled way ahead and left Voodoo in the dust. I had been loyal to Voodoo but I refuse to put inferior products in my machine, and I would recommend that you do the same. NVIDIA offers more power and more features. You will get a better performance out of it. Believe me, I have used both cards and there is no contest.
In summary, if you are looking to upgrade your machine to a full fledged gaming machine, but trying not to thin your wallet out too much, invest in this card, you will thank yourself.
