| kkj1961's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart p1000 Ink-jet Printer |
About six months ago I picked up an Olympus 2020 Zoom digital camera for taking vacation photos and snapshots of my 18 month old niece. I decided at that point that I needed to upgrade my printer so that I could print out photo quality prints of my digital photos.
I looked at several printers, including some of the Epson models, but decided on the Photosmart 1000 for several reasons:
1) HP's reputation with inkjet printers.
2) The ability to load a smartmedia or compactflash card directly into the printer and save photos to the computer via the USB interface. This was particularly valuable since my camera only has a serial interface.
3) The high page per minute speed in draft mode.
I tend to print two types of documents. Photos which I want printed at the highest quality possible, and other miscellaneous document for which the quality is relatively unimportant. The Photosmart 1000 handles both admirably. I have been amazed at the quality of my photo prints when using photo paper. They are easily mistaken for actual 35mm photos.
Since the printer is USB, installation was a snap. I particularly enjoy the HP Print utility that is included. You can choose from a variety of print formats from 8x10's to wallet photos and including several mixtures of photo sizes. You just drag and drop you photos where you want them and print them out. Very nice.
The printer has a high quality look to it. I have had the printer for about 5 months now and have had no problems whatsoever.
Highly Recommended for digital photo buffs.
