I was looking at the HP2000C for my office. We use both legal and letter equally and do a lot of normal quality photo printing. The 2000C didn't have enough memory for my needs. The 2500C fit the bill, networkable, two paper trays, and an additional 2Mb over the 2000C with the option of upgrading if needed. So this seemed like the way to go.
I have purchased a total of three of these printers, one for my office, one for myself and one for a friend. My personal printer had a dead printhead on setup. This required a long phone call to end up with a new set of printheads. So far this along with the occasional pulling too many sheets of paper are the only problems with that printer. The one for my friend has no problems, so far. The one for my office is another story altogether.
This printer immediately started pulling multiple sheets of paper. HP suggested a new HP cable. I switched with a new one I had already bought. Also I switched to HP paper, neither worked. After this HP sent out a tech to fix it. Unfortunately he did not really know much about the printer and I had to show him how to change the printheads and cartridges. I had the guts replaced three times. Eventually
HP had to replace the printer. Guess what? Same problem, then they replaced it again. Well that one had what was diagnosed as a dead control panel. Actually it was a bad printhead that shorted it out. The printhead which they left behind was badly discolored as is typical with shorted electronics. They didn't seem to care, they just bought me a new printer. This one had the same paper problem. HP sent the tech to get it and replace the guts. This time the mechanism was newly redesigned model that had just hit the production line. Unfortunately the guys who tried to fix it couldn't figure out how to do it properly and made things worse.
To HP's credit I did get in touch with a person in their Customer Service who really new his stuff. Too bad he was 2,000 miles away. HP did make good on this printer. They bought it back gave me a sizable rebate on a new Laser Jet 4500C and some consumables for the new printer. HP did not require I buy it direct from them. A few things I know from my discussions with various techs that worked on my printers (HP & Non HP) these printers have numerous problems. The printheads fail, the pumps go quite often and the sheet feeding mechanism is poor and failure rate for this is also high. This was evidenced by the redesign which should correct that issue on newer models. The one year warranty is not long enough.
This printer is a mixed bag of great ideas but poor execution and quality.
