For the gamers out there that have never played a Command & Conquer game or any "real-time strategy" games you may not notice the gaping whole in your pocketbook when you play this game. For the C & C veterans however, you will know exactly what I mean when I say "I've been cheated!!!".
I played Command & Conquer, the original, some time ago. I loved it instantly. I was a WarCraft II junky already. C & C was like the high-tech version of WarCraft. Of course, the next game to come along was DarkReign, which no game has caught up with yet. I even played some C & C: Red Alert, which wasn't great but was a good step above the first C & C. Then the “great” C & C: Tiberian Sun came out. I finally got a copy, due to the advice of a friend. A friend that has never played and of the C & C's, DarkReign, WarCraft or StarCraft. I should have known Needless to say I was hugely disappointed with the entire game. Even in a multi-player environment it was a failure.
My favorite part of games like this is the skirmish modes. I just love to take on as many computers as I can. However, when I played C & C: Tiberian Sun I was shocked to find out that the computer had it better than me. For some reason the computer with out ever entering my base can see each of my units and buildings. Allowing it to target it's major long distance weapon on one particular building. I too could attack an unexplored area, but never with the precision of the computer AI (artificial intelligence). Then there is this little fluke with collecting money. If you are spending it, you cannot deposit it. Meaning, to unload a "Harvester" quickly, you cannot be building anything. Otherwise the program spends a little, then collects a little, then back and forth, over and over. Good news though, the computer AI does not seem to be effected by this little inconvenience. The third and final thing is this. There is no map editor. With ever-single game of this genre there has been a map editor included.
The only good point that I have found is that the units seem to be smarter, mainly only in there path choices. For instance, the "Harvesters" no longer get stuck and stop working. Also, the battle units don't take an alternate more deadly path unless forced.
It is a shame. When I bought this game i wanted to be able to write a glorifying review of it. However, it turned out to be a flop. Guess, I should have looked at the Epinion’s regarding this game before I bought it. I urge anyone looking into purchasing this game to read some other review of it before making you decision.
