I bought this CD burner about a year ago and have had no problems with it that I can think of, especially not software problems. Mine came with Hotburn.
I even opened up the computer and installed this CD-RW myself and I'm no computer genius. If there were any problems that I might have had, it would've been because of faulty installation.
It takes me about 15-20 minutes tbo burn a 74 min or even a 80 min CD-R at max. speed.
Too bad you've had problems with yours. Maybe it is incompatible with other programs you may have installed, and not necessarily your hardware.
