When I decided to put together an Athlon system, I did a lot of research. Most importantly, I wanted a good motherboard. Many people try to save money on their motherboards and buy the cheapest they can find. This is just plain silly, considering that your entire computer relies on this vital component.
AsusTek has a good track record with their products. They're usually fast, reliable, and don't require lots of tweaking. They also tend to have several types of products: a stripped down version, and versions with various features added. The K7V sort of falls in between.
It is a fast board. Various online hardware sites have noted this board is one of the faster Athlon motherboards. It also doesn't require lots of tweaking. I put in the processor, the ram, and my expansion cards, and that was it. Well, a jumper or two to set the right voltages was needed as well. But the excellent manual made it clear what jumpers needed which settings.
Some added features that are nice are an extra set of USB ports bringing the total to 4, optional sound, and a MicroATX version as well as the standard ATX form factor.
Some people like to overclock. This board *can* overclock, but there are better boards for that purpose.
That being said, this board is probably more stable because of the lack of full overclocking features. A major plus for this board is the chipset it uses. It is much improved over the previous AsusTek Athlon offering.
In the end, the AsusTek K7V is an excellent motherboard.
