Gateway? NEVER AGAIN!

I purchased a Gateway Essential last year, making my decision on what I actually wanted in a computer based upon my needs, etc.

Within the first year of ownership, I have been thru a mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor (the EV700)and a power supply unit.

The most frustrating ordeal was when I called in for support, I have reached CSRs who immediately want to "tell me" that the problem I'm having is a software issue. There is nothing more frustrating than having to argue with a CSR to get to tech support.

IMO, Gateway is sending out some incredibly cheap components and will do about everything they can to avoid replacing defective parts. If you are lucky, you might reach a techie that you can communicate with and will get your problem resolved and a new part out to you ASAP.

Another thing that really stinks about the parts warranty is the fact that if you get a replacement part, the warranty runs out on the anniversary date you purchased the whole computer, initially. You will have to purchase the "extended" warranty to cover anything you have replaced within that first year of "free" warranty. In other words, if something goes bad with your monitor 3 weeks before your first year warranty is up, they will not cover that monitor if it becomes non-functional 6 weeks after they send it to you. So, you are stuck paying $168.00 for an extended 2 year warranty on parts and labor.

In consideration of the problems I have had with my computer since I purchased it, I made the decision to go to another company to purchase computers for my clientele and family members. I set up accounting systems for small businesses and my family is now wanting to get "computerized". I just will not go back to Gateway, ever again- I don't feel that I purchased a reliable computer, and I sure do not like speaking to CSR's who immediately try to tell me that my problems are a "software" issue, and try to make you feel that you have no idea that you, the consumer have no idea of what you are talking about.

Maybe Gateway is getting too big, too fast and are losing site of their original goals.
