| Clarus's Full Review: Guillemot Maxi Gamer Xentor |
My first contact with Guillemot was during my job in hardware trading company last year. I must say the experience was great, before I saw the performance of this card I was a "3dFX-only" gamer, but after a session of KingPin with this card my worship was gone...
Boy this this card rocks, it's worth every penny you pay for it. I had the possibility to test it during our "Rainbow Six" workshop last weekend on many machines and I must say I was astonished by the performance I saw. Even on "slow" Pentium II 350MHz with 128 MB RAM where SLI Voodoo's choked and died this card was on the top of things.
The Xentor 32 is also a good 2D graphics performer that makes a High-End Photoshop machine out of every slow Pentium II. We compared a system with P II 600 MHz; 256 RAM with an ATI adapter to a P II 350 MHz; 128 MB RAM with Xentor 32 and I was quite disappointed with the performance of the P II 600 machine. So there is no need to upgrade the CPU, just try a better card.
The DVD experience was not as terrific as gaming and design work the picture was a bit stocking, but this card is not really designed for it. It's only an additional feature like the TV-OUT so don't complain about it.
All in all, the Xentor32 32MB is a terrific performer for the price. If you don't want to spend your money for the newer geForce chip from nVidia, then this is the best thing to get!
P.S. The installation is very easy on Windows systems and SUSE Linux 6.3 supports this card also.
