I chose this game because I was a business major in college and wanted to see how realistic the economic model was. I had read some very good reviews in PC Gamer which I find is correct about 99% of the time on the games they recommend.
I found the graphics of this game to be excellent and the game play smooth and easy. I never tried The original Railroad Tycoon so I started with the tutorial. It was only a short time before I was playing like a pro. This game was a lot of fun and easy to learn.
The game offers three ways to win for both the campaigns and the scenarios. You can win by satisfying certain conditions for a bronze medal, silver medal, or gold medal. The conditions get reasonably more difficult to satisfy as you go from bronze to gold.
When purchased I figured this game for a couple of weeks of play now and then tops. I was pleasantly surprised when I started playing it like a fiend. I just couldn't put it down. I especially enjoyed the more advanced scenarios and campaigns. It was fun trying to manipulate the stock market.
Another source of enjoyment were the lines of industry and turning them profitable by servicing them with my railroad. I would buy them up first then turn the profitable in the more advanced scenarios so the competitors would not buy them out from under me.
This game just kept challenging me. I wanted to get better and better and in so doing I just kept having more fun. Go ahead take the Tycoon challenge it is definitely worth the full price and if you are lucky you may even find it discounted because it has been out so long.
If you really want a challenge this game can be played online free through Heat. It is much more challenging playing against other humans than the computer.
