| Rollingstream's Full Review: Apple Power Macintosh G4 Base |
I paid cash up front for my PowerMac G4. I have to say it was worth every
penny ($1800). My G4 is 350 megahertz with 192 megs of RAM, 10 Gig hard drive and a DVD player.
I use Photoshop 5, Illustrator 8, Flash 4 on my machine, and Quark plus Appleworks 6 for presentations. I am learning multimedia at home and do many projects on my machine. It runs smooth and fast, have not had a problem at all for the four+ months that I have had it, I didn't buy a warranty for my machine either. It comes with Quicktime, IE, Netscape(whick I don't use because IE is better).
For those of you wonder whether you ought to buy a PC or Mac, they aren't too different. I use a PC at work, and use my Mac at home. The only problem is that my PC work is not compatible with my Mac work, but I don't need it to be. The interface is very easy to navigate on Mac OS9. Working with graphics is a breeze on my G4, and now when you buy it it comes with a 400 megahertz processor for the price I paid for my 350 megahertz processor.
I have a cable modem internet connection, the built-in 10/Base T ethernet port made that possible, no need to buy extra peripherals, the Universal Serial Bus ports make adding peripherals such as a scanner, zip drive, or printer easy as plugging in a toaster and sticking in a slice of Wonder bread.
The DVD picture on my Sony Trinitron monitor display superb quality resolution, have had no problems playing CDs or DVDs on my DVD player.
The only thing is that novice computer users may be confused with setting up this machine so that it won't crash your programs, but changing the settings in the control panel will easily fix any crash problems.
I really recommend this over the iMacs, since the iMacs will be nothing more than retro antiques in a year or so.
