What the heck is a web server? How do I get files from MY computer onto the internet? These are common questions for non-techies who want to publish that family reunion website, but are scared silly. FTP Voyager was the first FTP tool I used when I began publishing websites. I had no idea what FTP was - I just knew I had to use it if I wanted my homepage on the internet. Voyager has a simple, drag-and-drop interface that makes web page publishing easy. Just drag files from the bottom pane (your computer) to the top (the internet)!
Of course, there is some setup involved. But that's easy, too (as long as you have all the information necessary - username, password, FTP site, etc). FTP Sites are organized just like Windows Explorer - you can create a folder that contains similar sites, or just create a bunch of FTP site without folders. Its flexible.
When initially installing and opening the software for the first time, I was confused by the default FTP sites that appear in the Profile Manager. Why would I ever want to connect to those sites? I just ignored them for the first few months, then realized that the world would not end if I deleted them all. I think this definitely has the potential to confuse new users.
The Help is concise, but thorough. I always seems to find what I'm looking for in the index. The Options dialog is very intimidating - 13 tab buttons in 3 rows. If that's not a usability nightmare, I don't know what is! But, I've never needed to go into the dialog, so I don't consider it a major problem (I only noticed it when I was poking around the menu). This shouldn't stop beginners from using this tool.
