In a time when CD-R and CD-RW are becoming the most affordable way to backup, because of their versitility it is great to know which company has been ahead of the mark all along.
Why is CD-R better than standard Backups? Well first of all Tape Drives are great, very slow, however can make a good backup for large files, (Gigabytes). However there is a problem with these, all they are usefull for is backup and restore. CD-R's on the other hand give you tons of options and great flexibility. First of all you can burn you own CD's, which is the most popular reason for using this, second you can take all the programs you download and back them up on a CD so if you ever need to re-install them you have a permanent copy (I won't go into detail on Copyrights you all know about those! ). Now using it for a backup for your system, MS Windows is a bulky operating system, I mean BULKY! It has more useless files than the Moulder and Fox. Since it is impossible to store that huge hunk-o-mass on a floppy disk, use a CD! It will surely fit the around 500megs of files, and you can make your CD bootable on some systems so if it ever goes down, pop in the CD and you can boot up your computer off your CD with your old operating system until you get it working again.
Now we know why CD-R's are good, well why Ricoh? Ricoh has always made the best CD-R's they were the first company to use a 1mb, and a 2mb buffer at an affordable price (Buffers hold data temporarily so you get many less errors during the writing process). Now they are making their drives faster than ever. Ricoh also has the most compatibility then any other drives on the market, they are the best for most (DAO disk at once) programs, like to backup a game or CD you have incase your original gets toasted, many burners can't write certain tracks causing them to error, Not RICOH! All in all they are the best product in the price range. Yes they're more expensive, but you won't get the flexibility with cheaper drives. Also you'll end up paying more for coasters (bad disks) on cheaper drives. And if you can, get SCSI it runs much better and has less problems with overhead during writing, (although ATAPI is getting better).
