All is not equal

I have used almost every hand held devise out there... Compaq Aeros, Philips Ninos, HP Jordanas, Palm III/V/X/XE/C/etc, Handspring Visors, Casio Cassiopias, PSION Revos, etc... Here's why you would pick one over the other... Windows CE is trying to do a lot, almost too much. Graphics, Music, Voice, etc... Thus requiring more memory and more processing power. Palm devices use less power and less graphics thus making it run slightly quicker. If you compare bare facts CE devices look as if they are the clear choice... 133MHz 32MB RAM 5" TFT screens etc... where Palms are 16MHz 8MB RAM Monochrome... but the diff really comes in the OS.
Windows does alot of Graphics and Sound, thus requiring more power and ram. Palms (w/ exception of the Palm IIIc) are monochrome and barely any audio. Thus allowing for speed on the seemingly slow 16MHz processor. And another big difference is that CE Machines are like an extension of your Computer, where is PALMs are a electronic replacement of your DayTimer.
There is a big difference, PALMs are designed to hold addresses, appointments, short notes, todo lists, etc... CEs are designed to write email, work on papers, review PowerPoint presentations, take voice memos, listen to music... essentially everything you would do with a regular computer. So it all comes down to what you want. Pick the Palm if you want something to hold all your appointments and addresses, and CE if you want to be able to write papers and make reports from your palm.
It all boils down to if you want to lug your work every where you go. Face it, most people will be getting this to somehow aid their job. If you have a fully functional CE device, hey! you can write that report while stuck in line at Starbucks. Pound for Pound Palms are cheaper, smaller, and just due to the fact that they live by the "less is more" standard they will run faster on a slower chip. CE is still a little slow, although CE 3.0 looks very promising. Only time will tell. Currently I own a PALM IIIe. I bought it because of price and functionality, the CE offers much more than i need, and it just wasn't worth it spending 4x the price.
