Best Product on the Market; Expensive Price Tag
Apr 06 '00
As a former sales manager for a technology integrator (company that sells computers, etc. to large corporations), I have seen many different products...and seen the requests for repair that come with many of them.
I am very pleased to say that with the IBM ThinkPad, complaints have been few and far between. This is an outstanding product backed by the grandfather of computer companies. You will not find a better made and more durable laptop on the market.
In addition to an excellently made product, the ThinkPad's compatibility with standard memory and other accessories makes it easily upgraded and highly flexible, unlike it's top competitor Compaq. IBM also offers one of the most extensive lines of accessories and supplemental equipment (such as docking stations, etc.) on the market.
There is one key drawback to IBM products in general, and the ThinkPad in particular: price. As Big Blue maintains the top spot in the computer world, they also maintain one of the highest prices. As a reseller, there are not high margins on these machines; they simply cost more to manufacture. As a result, IBMs are often priced out of the range of the general public.
Overall, this is an outstanding product. I would highly recommend any level of ThinkPad if you can stand the hit to your wallet.
