Well, not really, but Creative Labs has once again proved why it is the industry leader in Audio Cards. The Soundblaster PCI512 is the first Sound Card to include Environmental Audio. Creative Labs also continues to have the best overall compatibility in the industry with regards to Sound Cards.
Environmental Audio is revolutionizing the industry with life-like sound quality. Now you can play games or watch movies with sound that will come to life on your computer. One can easily become immersed in a world where sound blends with the action.
The card includes a game (joystick) port and jacks for microphones and speakers. The speakers can even be Surround Sound speakers, as this card can support up to four such speakers. Equally as impressive is the software bundle that comes with the sound card. The software includes a couple of games, which take advantage of the Environmental Audio qualities, and several utilities. The utilities include a program to record, catalog, and playback your favorite music and a utility menu among others.
Installation of this card is extremely simple. I just put the card into an available PCI slot, restarted my computer, inserted the CD-ROM into the CD Drive and followed the instructions. After restarting my computer a second time, the card was setup and Windows loaded the utility menu, which resides at the top left of your monitor screen. The utility menu includes simple point-and-click options to access anything that is sound-related. There is even a shortcut to the properties for the modem on the machine.
Overall, I have found no shortcomings with this sound card and have recommended it to my friends. This package also comes with an impressive price of around $80.00. Well worth the investment!
