About 4 years or so ago, I got a BJC-240. I loved the printer compared to my old Star NX-1000 Rainbow (a dot matrix 4-color ribbon printer).
I got the photo kit, with the color and photo cartridge. I used that printer for a couple years and still sold it for $50. I made menus for businesses and more!
I then bought a BJC-4400, and I in fact still have it. But I started getting tired of the ink costs, and had always wanted a 600 series with the seperate ink tanks.
So I fell into the same dilemna a former Epson owner that submitted a similar review about this printer as I have. I went to Staples.com (as opposed to them going to Staples) and looked up ink prices. With ink prices going upwards of $50 if your printhead is worn out, the individual color/black tanks of the 4400 (where there's two tanks, one with three colors and one with black) still didn't improve much over the 240's all-color or all-black approach.
So instead of paying $30-$50 for more ink for my aging printer, I decided to look at the new models. The 3000 was (and last I knew still is) selling for $99.98. I went to AlmostShoplifting.com and found some Staples.com coupon codes. The one I used is expired now, though..
I used a $40 off $150 code, since I also bought a Task Chair, Magnet Sheets, and 1 pen (to put it over $150).. Since I was over $50, I got free shipping.
Here's a summary of my order:
Canon BJC-3000 $99.98
Chair with Pneumatic Adjustment $38.99
Magnet Sheets for InkJet printers $10.44
Pen $0.62
-----------------------------------------
Sub Total $150.03
Coupon -$40.00
Sales Tax (6% in FL) $6.60
-----------------------------------------
Grand Total $116.63
So I suggest that if you order from an online merchant such as Staples.com, that since this order amount reaches close to the $$ OFF ORDERS OF $$ OR MORE type coupons, that you search them out!
I used AlmostShoplifting.com, but there are MANY more coupon sites!
If you know of more, please add them as comments to this review so people get the best deal possible!
The ink prices for the Cyan Magenta and Yellow cartridges (which the printer lets you know when you're low) are around $11.. I haven't priced black yet.. But compared to $30+ if you run out of one color, plus this style makes it easier to use REFILL KITS, you'll save lots of money in the long run!!!
