| anavidi's Full Review: Yodlee |
What is Yodlee? Well the name definitely won’t help you out. But you will figure it out from this review. Yodlee is what I call an online information consolidator. Think of all the different online accounts that you have, well Yodlee aims to give you an easy all in one way to check the status of each of those accounts.
First let me give you an example of how I use Yodlee then I’ll give a run down of all the different features and how they work. Of course at any time during this review if you have gotten enough information feel free to stop reading and give me the HR I richly deserve.
I feel I also richly deserve a useful service like Yodlee. Entered into my Yodlee account I have three of my emails that I check regularly (Yahoo, Excite and TheMail) I have my Yahoo online calendar and my Bank of America online account. I can check every single one of these accounts from Yodlee without having to open a new window, enter my username and password or wonder if I forgot to check something.
How I use Yodlee
Typically I check Yodlee about three times a day. I log into Yodlee with my id and password. Then I am taken to a screen with all three of my email accounts and any new messages in each one. Next to each account is an indicator telling me the last time that account information was refreshed. Now any account that I want to refresh I just hit the refresh button, I can even refresh multiple email accounts at one time. Then I wait about a minute and wala under each email account name are all the new messages in that account.
At that point I decide if any of the messages look interesting, if they do I hit the Go button and am automatically logged into that email account and can read my messages. It’s my favorite feature, it automatically logs me in, and whoever thought of Yodlee should win the Nobel Prize!
Plus since Bank of America works with Yodlee I can see an up to date list of all my account balances on my Yodlee page. If I want I can also see all the different transactions in each account. This lets me know if my paycheck has arrived or whether the people I wrote a check to have cashed it yet.
What is Yodlee capable of?
To be honest I don’t know. There are SO many different services available that it just isn’t worth my time to list them all. It’s enough to say that if it is even a semi-major online service there is a very good chance that Yodlee has it. Just so you’ll have an idea of what Yodlee has I’ll list the major categories, finance, communications, general, news, shopping, travel, mobile. Plus for the true technophile Yodlee can be synched with your PDA or web enabled phone. Every week Yodlee adds new services, they are obviously working hard to provide a comprehensive program.
Potential Yodlee Improvements
There are only three things I don’t like about Yodlee, the first one is that they don’t have more get paid to surf and online money making sites. You can check your All Advantage account from your Yodlee page but this is a category I wish they would beef up a bit. If only Yodlee would add more online money making accounts like Clickdough and TheMail, I want to be able to check those stats from my Yodlee page.
Second they need to work out the bugs in their system. About one in five times I try to refresh an email account I get some random error message. Though this might not even be Yodlee’s fault, sometimes it is the email service that is buggy. Plus this has never been a huge inconvenience, whenever it happens I just hit the Go button and Yodlee logs me into that account and I check and see what email I have manually.
The third thing that Yodlee needs is to be able to check your Epinions account from their service. They currently have Epinions as one of the available services but it has never worked. Once they add Epinions there will be no stopping them.
I would heartily recommend this service to anyone who has more than two email accounts. Anyone who uses the Internet extensively is bound to have signed up for a few of the services that Yodlee is compatible with, so I also recommend Yodlee to any Internet junkies out there. This service will save you time and effort. So many Internet services claim to make your life simpler and easier but Yodlee actually delivers.
