"O.K.", Doesn't really compare to it's competition
Written: Jan 24 '00
Pros:Automaticly logs into your "Hotmail" at the click of a button.
Cons:Real Dull and boring, Too Microsoft, Not all that efficent, too much like a chatroom and less of a Messenger Service.
MSN Messenger is alright. Microsoft hasn't really put a lot of time or energy into it you can tell. The product works fine and everything, does it's job and all, but just doesn't have enough features and is extreamly bland and boring. It's extremly Microsoft...all the colors...the grey's and bluish greens.
I think the best use for this is to tell you when you have email. Thats sorta all I use it for, because that way you don't have to logon to hotmail which takes me forever. And if you have mail it will tell you and you click and it takes you into your mailbox automatically, no logging in needed. That is probably the best thing about MSN. See...the problem is, is that with MSN, when you get a message, it opens a whole new window and it takes up a whole nother slot on your task bar which sucks because personally I hate having my task bar cluttered with different windows. And I find it takes a bit of time to write messages back because of that. Since it opens a new window it is kind of like a chat room, so basically you have to just sit there and do nothing but messaging because people know when you're typing and when your not (it tells them) and when you don't type they just sit there and flood ya:
"Where are you?"
"Hello?"
"Anyone There?"
Which is actually happening right as I'm typing and I don't like it because another "Feature" is that the new window that comes up and eats taskbar space, is that the thing blinks in your taskbar. It blinks Microsoft Blue and back to Microsoft Grey and it's annoying.
In Conclusion I can't really recommend this program unless you have absolutly no other option. It gets the job done, just not that great. It's not innovative enough so it's very dull and ugly and boring. You can check you mail through it which is good but you have to goto the website to send or actually read mail. And that feature (Of Course) Only works with Hotmail.
