| mealexa's Full Review: Iomega Zip 250 External SCSI Drive |
I purchased my Iomega Zip drive in a moment of desperation. A class I was taking in database management and design required that I work with some larger than 5 MB files. Since I am a full time professional and a part time student, I was not anxious to spend many precious minutes storing these files on multiple floppies. I decided to go with the SCSI drive (even though it was about $50 more than the parallel port drive) again because of the time I could save. I now wonder how I ever lived without this drive. I can transport files between home, work and school with great ease. I can store files that I would have been very reluctant to store before I became a Zip disc user. For example, I now have over 100 family photos on zip disc that I would not have stored on my hard drive since it is premium storage space. Yet I can feel very frugal about keeping these kinds of personal files on Zip disc. I also keep my financial records and personal e-mail on these discs. I can foresee the day when Zip discs are standard and replace 3.5 floppies the way 3.5 floppies replaced 5.25 floppies. I tend to be a cyber claustrophobic - when I start to see my drives filling up I get anxious! My Zip drive keeps me tranquil.
The only disadvantage I have encountered is that there are not as many PC's that have Zip drives as there are PC's that have floppy drives. However, this is changing quickly. Even though Zip discs are more expensive than floppies, they are not prohibitively costly.
