First Computer

Dec 12 '99

When purchasing a computer for the first time, don't overbuy. You can upgrade later by adding memory, programs, hardware. Be sure to ask if the computer Can be upgraded in the future. If not, don't buy it.
Check out the games or software for the processor type and the memory needed. Don't just rush out and buy because you could be disappointed when you unpack everything and nothing is working like you expected.
You will need at least a Pentium III, AMD K6, these provide enough processing power to run most any program. You will want at least 32 mg of memory. The hard drive should be at least 1 kb, a larger drive is better but you might get your programs lost.
Most importantly, decide beforehand how much you want to spend. You could end up with a system that is pricey and not really much use to you.
Decide what you want to use the computer for. (Games, E-mail, surfing the internet), or work-related uses (Graphs, Spreadsheets, Documents).
