Compaq has been a long time reliable supplier of PCs for the home and small business users. This line of computers is no different. A quite supperior product like many of its predecessors.
Unfortunately this like many of the other computer products that Compaq has produced have very little in the way of technical support or expertise outside the R&D department.
As we should give them the credit for Compaq producing the first IBM compatible clone system for the common end user, at the same time I think that we should come to expect more from a company with these kinds of records and rapor with us to provide more efficient tracking and support methods available for us without any additional fee.
I am a technician for one of Compaqs' competitors (a company that at this time I would rather not name) But I have had friends that have done third party support for them as well as I have worked for Compaq in the past for a number of years, I feel that the training for the technicians which many of you come to rely upon are no better trained than a used car salesman reciting the same thing to many people and not ever really understanding it.
I do not want to sway you from purchasing a very good computer but if you are not sure about how you would hanle technical support, check out some of my other opinions about computers and you will understand more where my loyalties lay and why they do. I came to do support for the company that I do specifically becuase of the quality of the computer backed by efficient and understanding technical support. Becuase after all I have to work with these technicians.
