| bizstone's Full Review: Filemaker Claris Homepage |
A few years back I was designing exclusively for print, very possibly contributing to the endangerment of the "Ink Worm." I didn’t see myself as a web designer. Then a print client, Wellesley Collage, asked me to do some web pages. They told me that the students were going to do most of the programming but they needed someone to make it all look nice and did I ever use Claris Home Page.
I said "Of course, but I don’t have the latest version."
So they bought me the software and we went to work. Home Page’s simple toolbar and intuitive palates made it really easy for me. If you don’t want to, you never have to see any code, you can work visually. Of course, the first few projects I did were heavy on the imported images. But as I got more accustomed to using tables, I began to appreciate the inherently graphic quality of simple HTML and I began to use the toggle to HTML mode to see how it worked.
Most of my empire was built using Claris Home Page. In fact, if it weren’t for Home Page, it’s possible that today I would not be Biz Stone, Genius (bizstone.com). I have also used Home Page to build Liviamcree.com, Julesasner.com, and a little site of my bookcovers and illustrations (members.aol.com/bizstone).
I would not recommend using Claris Home Page for building vast, architecturally complex web sites intended for use by thousands of people, as it is best suited for personal sites or prototyping.
If you feel left out of the Revolution and you want to be a web builder, buy a copy of Claris Home Page and start playing, let it teach you. Once you’ve made a few experimental pages, sign up to Blogger.
