I have been trying different chat and telephony programs for awhile now and I kept coming back to the Paltalk product page and thinking, "hey this looks pretty good, let's try it", I did and I am very disappointed.
First, I downloaded the program, pretty small, just over 300k..no problem. Then, registration, name, simple enough, address, okay, e-mail address, okay I'm game, hobbies and interests, no problem, yearly salary? Wait a minute! I should have known right there, red flag, go back, do not proceed, flee while you can! Too bad I didn't listen to that little voice in my head.
I proceeded, silly me. I picked my user id and password and then tried to log on, I did say try didn't I? I tried at least 10 times! I kept getting a message that said no such user. So after that I did the sign up process all over again because I really wanted to find out if the sound quality on the voice chat was really as good as they claimed. So, once again I tried logging on, finally, success! Now I'm going to add my buddy who also had downloaded the program and wanted to try it. I click on the add button, I enter my buddy's Paltalk id, name, and e-mail address..guess what?..no such user! By now I am steadily losing my patience, this is suppose to be fun remember. My buddy enters his information all over again and he tries to add me this time. The planets must have been in just the right alignment because it finally worked!
Next step actually attempting to communicate through a pc to pc call. My buddy rang me, I heard the ringing, I answered, I kept hearing the ringing, I answered again, and again and again! One time I clicked to accept and the message came back that I was already on a call with that buddy! Duh! I wasn't talking to him at all, I was attempting to answer him. So, I tried calling him, same thing..how frustrating! We finally succeed in something because we end up in some kind of a chat room with all of these people that I did not invite. Now they want to talk to me! Who are they and why am I here? I just wanted to talk pc to pc one on one to my friend! I didn't invite them here and I'm sure they didn't invite me there. Very strange.
Finally my friend connects to me, the sound quality is not the greatest, it kept dropping the conversation, fading in and out. So much for this program! Let me just say, I hit the delete key with no hesitation as did my friend.
So, in closing, I just want to say if you just want to voice chat with a friend I recommend MSN Messenger 3.0.. they don't ask questions about your income and it is easy to use. Paltalk is not a keeper.
