First impressions

Pros:Good d/l speed, ok u/l speed. Good customer service.
Cons:Prone to crashes, bandwidth may decrease as node gets crowded.

I finally got cable modem installed through @ Home after a good month on a waiting list. Apparently in some areas demand is so high that installation appointments can take quite a while. To put things into perspective, I have had a good T1 connection through university for about a year, and have switched to cable due to moving. My first impressions:
The install was quick and painless, the contractor for @ Home (though late) ran a cable from the nearest outlet to a provided cable modem, where a PC tech entered whatever IP's needed to be entered..etc (most of the network work is fairly simple and can be ultimately done by yourself). The modem did not work, however until the next day due to what they said was a server crash. I called @ Home's Denver base and they indeed confirmed a server crash in my area (which only leaves me suspect to the fact that this may happen more often then I'd like).

Though it is true that bandwidth is split between nodes (in my area there is about one node per block) and that theoretically speeds can slow down significantly due to more users on that node, I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. Download speeds are quick (I usually get about 300k/s), though it is also true that upload speeds are noticeably slower.
With the added bandwidth usage of my university, this cable modem holds up quite nicely with the bandwidth I was used to getting before I moved. I can say that I am happily suprised by this fact.

Customer service is not bad at all, they don't generally put you on hold "too" long, and you also have the option of chatting with a customer service rep online.

At the price I paid for this (free installation, $19.99 for first 6 months, $39.99 after) I believe this is a good deal and would recommend it to others.
