Easy to Buy, Very Hard to Get Fixed

I purchased my Presario 1611 Notebook computer in February of 1998.
It worked fine for a few months, but one day, the power plug became
so loose from the back of the computer that it sparked, let out a very
small puff of smoke, and fried the internal components, rendering the computer inoperable.
Because the computer was still under warranty, Compaq was happy to replace the broken parts. And so it happened.
But... When they fixed the internal components, they broke the touchpad, but didn't check it before they sent it back to me.
I let it slide for a few months, and then my battery stopped working. The charge display would not read the correct amount of battery power left. If I pulled out the power plug, the computer shut off completely, because the battery was completely dead and would not charge.
So... I decided to call tech support. They said they'd mail me a box to ship the computer back to their service center in. And I waited a week, and got no box. I called again, and requested another box. Another week, still no box. I called a third time, this time the tech support was certain a box would be delivered; one week later, no box.
I sat down for 20 minutes and wrote a letter to the President of Compaq, and I mailed it to the Headquarters. A few weeks later, I received a call from a special customer satisfaction agent. This one helped me to fix my battery problem. It's too bad it took a letter to the president and over a month and a half to get my problem fixed.
Companies can and do change. If you are considering the purchase of a Compaq, be sure that you are willing to go the extra mile if you encounter a problem that needs to be fixed.
